Legend for Weekly Schedule
This legend lists the activities that appear on my schedule for
weekdays. Many activities (class prep, grading, reading, email,
web site wrangling, the occasional dinner, etc.) also happen during the
evenings and weekends.
Teaching and Learning
- CSC-151-02
- Teaching Computer
Science 151
(a first course in computing) in Science 3813.
- CSC-295
- Teaching Computer Science 295 (Human-Computer Interaction) in Science 3819.
- PSY-337
- Taking Psychology 337 (Psychological Measurement).
- Office Hours
- Priority time
for meeting with students regarding academic matters. If you
wish, you may sign up for one or two 15-minute slots. If my
office hours this week don't work for you, please email me with 3-4
other possible meeting times so we can set up an appointment.
- Class Prep
- Getting ready for classes. This is important time.
You want me
to come to class prepared, don't you?
Talks
- Convocation
- A campus-wide lecture, usually of general interest.
- Thursday Extras
- Computer Science talks, movies, lessons, etc,
primarily aimed at undergraduates.
Meetings
- Faculty
Meeting
- The campus-wide faculty meeting, held
the first and third Mondays of each month.
- Science Division
Meeting
- The Science Division faculty meeting, held the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
- Department
Meeting
- The Computer Science department meets
every week on Tuesdays to discuss departmental issues.
Lunchtime
- STaLG (Science
Teaching and Learning Group)
- A discussion group on science
teaching that meets on alternate Wednesdays.
- Faculty
Lunch
- The regular faculty lunch at the
Faculty House, which I will try to participate in from time to time.
- CS
Lunch
- A semi-regular gathering of students and
faculty in Computer Science.
Self-Maintenance
- Walk
- For my
health, I aim to walk 10,000 steps each day. (Ask to see my
pedometer sometime and I will gladly show you.) I walked this much as
part of my daily routine in Seattle, but since moving to Grinnell I've
found I need to make a special effort---thus the
scheduled walk. I
invite you to join me on my
walk. I will be happy to talk about (almost) anything while we are walking. If
you want to walk with me, you may sign up so I
know to expect you, or just show up at my office at the appointed time.
- Yoga
- I practice
Viniyoga. I have put it on my schedule in the hopes that this will
actually make it happen. If you are curious, my home studio is Whole Life Yoga
in Seattle.
- Weekly review
- Time for me to figure out what the heck happened this week and
what needs to get done next week. I'm going to try doing it on
Friday afternoons, but
realistically it may happen on Sundays.
- Scholarship
- When I hope to get some work done on reading, writing, or
other
scholarly investigations.
