About Me
My responses to the introductory survey
- My
undergraduate major was computer science, though I initially thought I
would be a physics major. I also earned my M.S. and Ph.D. in
computer science. I initially wanted to study theory (that's basically
math for computer scientists), did some work in ubiquitous computing
and networks, and finally got into human-computer interaction. My main
interest is in accounting for human values in the design of computer
systems; I'm also interested in computer science education and, more
broadly, computers and society.
- I am also teaching Fundamentals of Computer Science I (CSC
151) and Computer Networks (CSC 364).
- I
am looking forward to learning about unfamiliar technologies, working
with faculty from across campus, and revisiting texts and ideas that I
first encountered in graduate school.
- Two
concerns: This class is the largest I've taught yet at Grinnell. I've
made a number of changes from the first time I taught this course, and
I hope they work well.
- Ask me about my pedometer, my cats, or my current knitting
project.
