Introductory Survey

Due: Wednesday, January 21

Goals: You learn about the course policies. I learn a bit about you.

Contents:

Part A: About the course

Read the front door for the course (http://www.cs.grinnell.edu/~davisjan/tec/154/2009S/), the course schedule, course mechanics, and any other pages that look interesting. Then answer the following questions.
  1. What work should you do in advance of class meetings? When should that work be done?
  2. How can you figure out what assignments you have due?
  3. When can you work with other students and when can you not work with other students (for this class)?
  4. How can you get in touch with me?
  5. What's one other important thing you learned by reading the course web site?
  6. Why do you think I gave you this assignment?
  7. What questions about the class do you have that aren't answered by the Web site?

Part B: About you

Please tell me a little about yourself. See also my responses to the introductory survey.
  1. If you have declared a major, what is it? If not, what major(s) are you considering? What about concentrations?
  2. What other courses are you taking?  (Please give course titles as well as numbers.)
  3. What do you expect to learn or gain in this course?
  4. What are your concerns for this course?
  5. Is there anyone in this class you would prefer not to work with? (This really belongs in the Study Team Questionnaire, but I put the question here so that you can answer it privately by email.)
  6. Tell me something about yourself that you'd like me to ask you more about later (e.g., your hometown, your goals, a hobby).
  7. What other questions do you have about me?

Submitting your work

Please send me (davisjan@cs.grinnell.edu) the answers to your questions in the body of an email.
