  A discussion in which many students will not participate seems inappropriate,
  so we are trying an alternate exercise.

The Bridge Building Competition

* Your goal is to build a bridge at least an inch wide that spans
  a distance of at least one foot.
* You have the following supplies:
  + Toothpicks
  + Marshmallows
  + Graham crackers
* You should work with your project team.
* I will award some sort of prize (probably leftovers) for
  + Strongest bridge
  + Most appealing bridge
