TEC154 2010S The Evolution of Technology

Review Sheet for FInal Examination

Our midsemester examination will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, 20 May 2010.

The exam will have between ten and twenty short-answer problems that draw upon readings, presentations, and discussions. In addition, a set of problems will ask you to do a new, short, reading and to reflect upon it using the techniques and lenses we have developed this semester.

Sample questions for the final are available online.

You may bring one page (8.5x11, double-sided) of hand-written notes to each examination. You must turn in the notes with each part of the exam.

As you prepare for the examination and review session, I recommend that you (1) summarize the important parts of each reading and lecture, (2) identify commonalities between readings, and (3) practice applying key points to different technologies.

For each of the readings or presentations, you might identify (a) the author's main point, in your words; (b) the author's main point, in his or her own words; (c) two secondary points from the author; (d) the author's definition of technology (implicit or explicit); and (e) a question that author would recommend you ask about a new technology that you are evaluating.

Disclaimer: I usually create these pages on the fly, which means that I rarely proofread them and they may contain bad grammar and incorrect details. It also means that I tend to update them regularly (see the history for more details). Feel free to contact me with any suggestions for changes.
