Summary: In this exercise, you will begin a Web Journal or Web Log relevant to your research topic.
Purposes: (1) To give you experience writing to an audience. (2) To give you experience doing free writing. (3) To give you the opportunity to gain feedback on your ideas.
Assigned: Tuesday, 16 September 2003
Due: 8:00 a.m., Thursday, 18 September 2003
Background: You will think about your topic in many ways. You will think about it as you find sources. You will reflect on it as you read those sources. You may even find that you discuss it with friends. Experience shows that you think more carefully about a subject when you write regularly about it.
Assignment: Create a Web Journal or Web Log on your selected topic. You may create your journal using any popular service, such as livejournal.com or blogger.com. Enter a few notes about your experience looking for sources (for Miscellaneous Homework 6).
To Turn In: The URL of your Web Journal or Web Log.
Future Work: You must add at least a paragraph to your journal each week. You may choose to update your journal more frequently (and may receieve extra credit for doing so). We will do our best to look at your journal regularly. We will reflect on your journal as a whole at the end of the semester.
Getting Help: Remember: Those who can't do, teach.
I've never used a 'blog or Web Journal. However, Evan, Eryn, and Elizabeth are all very comfortable with these technologies. Ask them for help.

Disclaimer:
I usually create these pages on the fly
, which means that I rarely
proofread them and they may contain bad grammar and incorrect details.
It also means that I tend to update them regularly (see the history for
more details). Feel free to contact me with any suggestions for changes.
