Notes:

I've rearranged the syllabus slightly. Due dates haven't changed. However, the daily topics have changed slightly for the next two weeks.
Since I tell you to take care of yourselves, I decided to tell myself the same. Hence, I went to bed before 11 p.m. instead of trying to grade your essays.
Since your essays aren't graded, we don't need to meet this week. Sorry. I'll probably still be in my office during our normal meeting time if you want to chat.
Don't forget to attend convocation today. Wear your hat. Send me a note soon thereafter.

For the first few minutes of class, I'd like you to write your preferred topic on one card and your secondary topic on another card.

Alumni Advice: Dealing with Stress

I've told you the story before, but I'll tell it again: When I asked my former tutees what they'd do differently, they almost unanimously said "Tutorial should teach time and stress management."
Since students know more about what kinds of issues students must manage, I've brought in one of my former tutees, John Lentz, to talk about this issue.
- A few other former tutees (like Jake Omvig) might show up, too.
I have absolutely no idea what John has planned for his half hour of fame.

Topic Selection

We're going to try an odd exercise for selecting topics.
Everyone needs to write his or her favorite topic on an index card and second favorite topic on another index card. Please write legibly.
I will gather the cards and read off the topics. The group will have an opportunity to discuss each topic.
When two or more people have chosen similar topics, we'll decide as a group whether we permit two essays on the same.
- Note that our goal is an edited volume.
