SIGCSE Committee Listservs

This page describes both the general listserv structure for SIGCSE and its Committees and the mechanics of how to use those listservs.

The listserv Structure

While SIGCSE wants to communicate with its members regarding opportunities for participation in Committees, SIGCSE also wants to minimize e-mail to those who do not want to participate. This has led to the following preliminary approach regarding e-mail and listservs:

listserv Mechanics

The following describes details for using SIGCSE-Committees@acm.org. Similar directions apply to the other SIGCSE listservs (SIGCSE-MATH-COMM, SIGCSE-WOMEN-COMM, SIGCSE_CSRM, and SIGCSE-FACULTY-EVAL).

Subscribing:

To subscribe, send e-mail to LISTSERV@acm.org. The complete body of your message should be:

subscribe SIGCSE-Committees <your_name>

where <your_name> designates the name you want listed in listserv records. Alternatively, if you do not want your name identified (but you still want to be on the list), the complete body of your message should be:

subscribe SIGCSE-Committees Anonymous

Leaving:

To remove your name from the listserv, send e-mail to LISTSERV@acm.org with the message:

signoff SIGCSE-Committees

Sending Messages to the List:

Once you have subscribed to the listserv, you can post messages to everyone on the list by sending regular e-mail to SIGCSE-Committees@acm.org.

Similarly, if you receive a message from the listserv, you can respond to all members in the group with the normal "reply" option in your mailer.

Additional Information:

The ACM listserv software provides many additional capabilities, including archiving and providing postings on a once-daily basis. Such capabilities are described in some detail at http://www.lsoft.com/manuals. ACM also maintains an information page at http://www.acm.org/infodir/listserv/.
