Papers
You will write four main papers in this course. The initial due dates
for the papers are provided in the syllabus, and you can revise any paper
at any time. The first time you turn in each paper, it should be about
four to five pages (1200-1500 words) long. You will always have the chance to
vary the length of papers in revision.
You are always permitted and encouraged to enrich your argument with secondary sources such as scholarly articles. The third paper will have a required research component that we will discuss in class and in a research-oriented library session during the Jane Austen unit. For guidance about what I look for in papers, see the following links. They contain a lot of information; I assume that each of you will find some parts more relevant and useful than others. We will go over many of these materials in class.
