``You have to turn over every page''

Study carefully the exchange between Valentine and Hannah on pages 78 and 79 of Arcadia, beginning with the line ``Listen -- you know your tea's getting cold'' and ending with Hannah's line ``Byron.'' Go through the exchange line by line and explicate it, telling what each line means, why the character utters it, and what it shows about the characters' inner thoughts and feelings. Identify and explain any references that the characters touch on without really explaining, and make explicit any conclusions that are implicit in their lines.

Write up your answer and have it ready to turn in at the beginning of class on November 7. It should be legibly typed or set, double-spaced, with ample margins (I recommend an inch and a quarter at top, bottom, and sides). If it runs to more than one page, each page after the first should bear your surname and a page number in the upper right-hand corner.

I suggest that you will find it convenient to answer this question in about one thousand words, although I'll accept papers that are longer or shorter.
