The Federal Emergency Management Agency has requested the news media not to photograph the recovery of bodies from the flooded streets of New Orleans, backing up this request with a refusal to permit journalists to accompany recovery teams.

The parallel with the Republican administration's refusal to permit photographs of the caskets of military personnel who died in the course of our ignominious adventure in Iraq is hard to miss.
