Le Carré, John. The constant gardener. New York: Pocket Books, 2001. ISBN 0-7434-2291-0.
Summary: A relief worker and social activist in Kenya, when Daniel arap Moi was dictator, is murdered in a remote rural area. She had an agreement with her husband, who was a minor diplomat in the British Embassy in Kenya: Neither of them told the other about the information they acquired in their respective lines of work. After her death, however, the diplomat investigates, and discovers that his wife had collected a large quantity of evidence damaging to a major multinational corporation. The novel basically tells how he learned what she was doing and what he then did about it.
Strong characters and an engrossing plot -- I can see why this was chosen to be made into a movie. I hope that the filmmakers have done it justice.
