Welsh, Ian. “The corporation: I.” The blogging of the president, October 2, 2005.

Summary: Because the only legal or moral responsibility of a corporation is to increase its value to the shareholder, corporations behave, in human terms, like obsessive psychopaths. Welsh suggests several practical ways for a democratic society to protect itself against the corporations in its midst -- for example, recovering through taxes the corporations' externalized costs, allow private and class-action lawsuits to recover the damages that result from untaxed externalities, revoke the charters of corporations that commit capital crimes, and prohibit corporate donations to politicians.
