Summary: Commercial anti-virus products didn't protect their users against Sony's rootkit, quite possibly as a matter of policy. Their failure shows that users of free software should not rely on commerical anti-virus products to protect Linux and BSD systems.

If we really want to protect our data, then we are going to have to be ultimately responsible for it.
