Wodehouse, P. G. Laughing gas. Woodstock, New York: The Overlook Press, 2001 (first published in 1936). ISBN 1-58567-232-7.
An upper-class English twit, sent to Hollywood on a mission to rescue an acquaintance from the embraces of a gold-digger, contracts a toothache and seeks out a dentist. While he is under anesthesia, his mind and spirit swap bodies with those of a cantankerous child star. Wacky hijinks ensue, as the twit is pushed around by the child star's unpleasant manager, nursemaid, and competitors, and ultimately kidnapped, while the child star, successfully impersonating the twit, uses his moment of freedom to mount a campaign of revenge against his former oppressors. Eventually, however, a semblance of order is restored, and, as a side effect, the twit is steered towards the promise of a happy marriage.
