Felten, Edward W. “How much information is conveyed by a Princeton grade?” April 22, 2004.

Summary: The author computes and reports the average information content of a Princeton grade in six successive multi-year periods, beginning with 1973-1977 and ending with 1997-2002. In the first of those periods, the information content of a Princeton grade was, on the average, 3.12 bits; in the last, as a result of grade inflation, it had declined to 2.77 bits.
