Lakoff, George, Marc Ettlinger, and Sam Ferguson. “Bush is not incompetent.” Rockridge Institute, June 25, 2006.
Summary: The catastrophes that have resulted from the decisions and actions of the current Republican administration do not constitute evidence that George Bush is incompetent. They are natural and predictable consequences of the conservative political philosophy and were intended to have most of the effects that they have actually had. Bush has, in fact, been spectacularly competent in implementing this conservative philosophy -- that is, in centralizing authority in a unitary executive, and in undercutting all functions of the government except the military and the police, transferring control of its other operations to the “free market,” that is, to corporations.
Bush will not be running again, but other conservatives will. His governing philosophy is theirs as well. We should be putting the onus where it belongs, on all conservative office holders and candidates who would lead us off the same cliff.
