Felten, Ed. “DRM wars: the next generation.” Freedom to tinker, August 9, 2006.
Summary: Advocates of legislation in support of digital-restrictions management (DRM) schemes are starting to realize that they have lost the battle against peer-to-peer distribution of copyrighted music and video. Consequently, they are switching to a different argument: DRM makes it possible for media corporations to charge different customers different amounts for the same product, and makes it easier to lock customers into platforms such as iTunes, thereby increasing the financial incentive to develop such systems.
One effect of this change in strategy is to uncouple the political issues related to DRM from copyright-protection issues.
