Picnic Signups
In planning for departmental picnics, organizers post signups for
students, and students on board email a division secretary with their PCard
number. Organizers also consult faculty regarding attendance and items to
bring. A Web-based system would simplify and automate this process.
Choosing a Date
-
Given a listing of dates, it would be helpful to know who can come when.
-
In identifying a conflict, a user might indicate the date, the reason for
the conflict, and who they are.
Student Sign Up
-
A student should indicate:
-
their name
-
if they are on a meal plan, their PCard number
-
meat/veggie/vegan preference
-
number of guests (for some events only)
-
PCard information must be kept confidential
Faculty Sign Up
-
A faculty member indicate:
-
their name
-
meat/veggie/vegan preference
-
number of guests
-
what potluck item they will bring
Summary Reports
-
Authorized leaders should be able to get a report of names of those on a
meal plan, together with the corresponding PCard numbers
-
Authroized leaders should be able to get totals:
-
by student major
-
by food choice (meat/veggie/vegan)
-
by faculty/student
Design Questions
-
Should anyone be able to look up how has signed up for the picnic?
(Presumably, the PCard number would not be public in any case.)
-
Should a person be able to edit the information they provided previously?
-
If so, how would user authentication work? Folks would need to identify
themselves, but PCard numbers should be secure within the system.
-
A simple name/PCard number system would allow unlimited trial-and-error to
guess PCard numbers. A limit on guessing might be needed.
-
Is there a way to minimize data entry errors for PCard numbers? For
example, should these numbers be entered twice to reduce errors.
