Some Goals
Engage students directly through a need to find specific material
Show students both strengths and weaknesses of their current skills
Demonstrate the need for verifying data and critically evaluating sources of information
Create an environment in which instruction in information literacy is clearly relevant and helpful
Demonstrate the importance of traditional (paper/non-Web) sources as a complement to Internet sources
Provide high visibility for reference librarians as helpful and knowledgeable resource people
Integrate information literacy with other course work
Highlight research strategies that clearly apply to many disciplines, not just the course at hand
Provide students with early and direct experience following basic academic rules of citation, quotation, and paraphrasing
