Context for CS2

Three audiences

• Potential majors
• Students who are curious
• Students who want to satisfy requirement(s)

CS2 must be considered within the overall CS and college curriculum

Multiple audiences have multiple interests and needs

• CS2 must meet general-education expectatons
• CS2 must meet goals and objectives when it supports other programs (e.g., math teacher education)
• CS2 should provide a strong foundation for later CS courses
• CS2 must support CS majors and CS minors

CS2 should stand on its own

This will be the last CS course for some students

Content and pedagogy must support course goals

CS2 has high-level goals and objectives (e.g., the nature of computer science)

• The content must support the goals
• Pedagogy must reflect in action what the high-level words say
