External Roles

Develop and oversee budgets, equipment requests, facilities, labs
Internal Roles

Shield other faculty from reports, forms, surveys, and other time sinks

Support faculty teaching, scholarship, service

Protect faculty from overwork, excessive demands

Review faculty (merit raises, contract renewal, promotion, tenure)

Organize mentoring for new faculty

Facilitate departmental programs and their expansion and revision

Facilitate communication among faculty, students
