My approach at Grinnell used 3 research exercises of 2 questions each,
and this approach yielded
about twice the business for librarians for this course during the semester
considerably greater follow-up business for librarians for other courses in
both the same semester and in later semesters
Would similar results be found in other tutorial sections at Grinnell
or at other institutions?
While 3 research exercises reflects a intuitive compromise of time versus
results, would a better compromise include 2, 4, or more research exercise
sets?
Assignments
Does quality of student work improve if weekly assignments or lab writeups
are cut in half, with each half due every 3-4 days?
Are the results different in courses for beginning students versus courses
for junior/senior majors?
Assessment
How can we measure the value-added component of education provided by a
school?
Question asked by school accreditation teams
If a school has good students and the school does not interfere, then the
students are likely to do fine on their own.
Can one assess the effect the school has in education?
