Challenges Related to Facilities: Labs
On-going labs require on-going attention:

system administration (e.g., backup, account maintenance)
Alternatives to budgeting and personnel

Department-related hardware/software budgets
must be adequate to allow constant upgrades

College-wide budgets must provide adequate support for CS needs
Approaches to maintenance and administration

provided by computer center
(must pay attention to special needs)

provided by faculty
(release time/pay needed to avoid burnout)

provided by students
(training, dependability problematic)
While these are all critical issues, many schools have found tolerable
short-term solutions
