Schedule

• Each activity currently either on schedule or a few days ahead of schedule

• In June and July, site preparation encountered several surprises

  • Storm sewer on west of building needed replacing
  • Telephone conduit had to be moved from under the transformer
  • Sewer from Math/CS/Psych wing had to be moved from under greenhouse
  • Various other lines not where expected
  • Fumes during asbestos removal more intense than anticipated
  • Dirt and dust likely compounded because relatively porous old windows and malfunction of ventilation unit

• In August, digging of hole and shoring largely proceeded as expected, except:

  • chiller plant seems to amplify sound and vibration for activity in that area
  • shoring in NW corner similarly may amplify sound and vibration
  • geopiers near existing building can cause moderate disruption

• Installation of water main by city complicated logistics

Utilities

• Accomplished goal of having all utilities rerouted before classes resumed

Now Through October

• Geopiers should be finished by end of this week

• Pads over geopiers to be started this week and continue through mid-October

• Foundation walls will start shortly, after first pads prepared

• With tower crane in place, concrete pumper not needed very much for pouring concrete (in contrast to work at Joe Rosenfield Center)
