My career path, in brief:

Came to Grinnell in 1974 at mathematician with Ph.D. from M.I.T.
Shifted to computer science with MS in CS from U. Iowa in 1979
With few computer scientists at Grinnell for many years, I have needed to be a generalist, not a specialist
As a generalist, my work has consistently combined teaching, scholarship, service
All three of these blend constantly in my roles. Some current positions:
- Chair of Special Interest Group (SIG) on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
- Secretary of ACM SIG Governing Board
- Member, Committee on the Profession of the Mathematical Assocation of America (MAA)
- Member, Ad Hoc Committee to Develop an MAA Ethics Statement
